Apple Unveils Enhanced AirTag with Extended Range and Amplified Speaker
Apple has unveiled a much-anticipated upgrade to its AirTag, promising a significant leap in functionality. The new AirTag boasts an extended range, enabling users to locate items from a greater distance than ever before. Additionally, the speaker has been amplified, ensuring a louder alert when you're close to your lost item. This upgrade is now available at the same price as its predecessors: $29 for a single AirTag and $99 for a pack of four.
Despite the upgrade, Apple has maintained the AirTag's familiar design, focusing on enhancing its usability. The device utilizes the same ultra-wideband chip found in recent iPhones and Apple Watches, enabling a more powerful Precision Finding feature. This feature now operates from up to 50% farther away than the previous generation, and the latest Apple Watches are also compatible with Precision Finding, allowing users to track items from their wrist.
The new speaker is 50% louder than its predecessor and integrates with the Share Item Location feature in the Find My app on iOS. This feature enables users to securely share the location of a lost item with third parties, such as airlines, for efficient tracking of lost luggage.
While this upgrade may not be the groundbreaking foldable iPhone reveal many anticipated in 2026, it marks a positive start to the year for Apple, offering tangible improvements to an already popular product.
