Shane Carrigy, 45 years old, met his end while working on a bus at the family business, Carrigy Coaches, in Ballinalee. The incident occurred on Thursday, November 27th, at approximately 11:50 AM. Adding to the family's grief, his father, Michael, passed away shortly after.
At his funeral, held at the Holy Trinity Church in Ballinalee, the community gathered to pay their respects. Gifts presented at the altar reflected Shane's passions for music and sports. Parish Priest Fr. Thomas Murray, in his eulogy, described Shane as a pillar of the community.
"Shane spent his life carrying people," Fr. Murray shared, highlighting his dedication to transporting children to school and various sporting events. He fostered friendships with many, including a former Gaelic player from Australia, who recalled Shane's ability to connect with others and offer support. "He said Shane always watched out for the people on the margins and subtlety might influence them away from the darkness towards the light,” the player said.
Shane is survived by his wife, Anne, his children, Kayla and Ryan, his sister Michelle, and his brothers Raymond, Michael, and Aiden. Following the funeral mass, he was laid to rest in St. Emer's Cemetery, Ballinalee.
The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has launched an investigation into the incident. A spokesperson for the HSA stated that no further information would be available at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
